It's a rather lazy Sunday, with no more intense plans than watching the Olympics and checking out makeup sales.

With no big plans, I was thinking about the *ahem* considerable amount of makeup I have acquired lately. It occured to me, as I pondered my palette collection in search of inspiration, that I had bought ColourPop's Garden Variety palette because I had Shade Lust for Smudge Off, and I hadn't even used it yet.

What is Shade Lust, you ask? I bet you already know. Shade Lust is when you see one (or more) color in a palette and You. Want. It. You may not need the other colors in that collection. You may not even like them all that much. But that one shade you DO like keeps drawing you back. Maybe you resist a while, playing the I-shouldn't-for-one-shade game, but deep down you know you're going to cave eventually. Shade Lust has no mercy. Shade Lust doesn't care if you only have twenty bucks left until next payday. Shade Lust is the tango of the makeup world, and everybody dances.

I got that way about Smudge Off, the bright, shimmery, orchid delight whispering to me seductively whenever I browsed the ColourPop website. Which, yeah, I do pretty often. Even though there are more neutrals and browns in the palette than I usually like, I had to have that color. I bought Garden Variety and proceeded to used the neutrals instead of Smudge Off. I got around to Wavelength, Best Buds, Don't Leaf, even Succa 4 U. Not Smudge Off, though. It sat untouched.

But today, I busted out my Garden Variety with the pure intent of using Smudge Off. Here's how it went:

ree

For the eyes, I started with Herbivore from Garden Variety as my base color. From the same palette, I used Synergy for my lid and Smudge Off on the center of the lid. I then skipped over to the Misunderstood palette (also ColourPop) and picked up Forest of Thorns for my outer corner. I did a light blend on those from the inner corner outward.

From crease to midway to the brow, I dusted on Tell Tail from the Fine Feathered palette (more ColourPop, it's a ColourPop kind of day!) To intensify the depth and drama, I drew a fine line of Sing from Misunderstood in the crease and blended those upward. I felt like the resulting look needed a little more brightness. Nomad's Cartegena Magica palette to the rescue! It really is becoming a favorite. I used some La Luz Malva to peek up the area above the outer corner, and did a light overall blend. I dabbed a bit of Wild Life from the Lush Life palette on the inner corner, just for that eye-catch glimmer.

For eyeliner, I went with CoverGirl's Full Spectrum Silver Metallic, under the eye only. The whole eye got Nyx EpicWear in Fierce Purple. I waffled back and forth about whether to add black. Who am I kidding? I never can resist, and I had a new one to try from my most recent Ipsy bag -

Il Makiage Black Card Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner. I'm really grooving on the fine point tip and, after having it one for 8 hours, it hasn't budged at all.

On too of two coats of Thrive Causemetics Liquid Lash Extensions mascara, I added one of Zeesea Living Colorfully mascara, a clear mascara with holographic glitter. I've only used this mascara twice, and I'm not sure how I feel about it yet. On the one hand, holographic glitter! Heck yeah! On the other, how much glitter can my lashes actually hold on to? It doesn't seem to be enough to really show in a day look. Maybe it would be better in a holiday look? More experimentation is needed.

For lips, I love MAC's Hey Frenchie and Revolution's Unicorn Story gloss, so I mixed them together and I like the result.

That's the scoop for today, my lovelies. Simone Biles (one of my heroes) is about to vault. By the way, did anyone else notice My Kayla Skinner's makeup look is on point!?! Every bit as fierce as her gymnastics. Go USA!
