Pretty Plus You: An Idea

I'm bored.

That's what I said to myself back in February of 2021. Wasn't everyone bored, by then? Long, cold pandemic winters don't exactly make for big excitement. I had That Feeling. You know the one. Something had to change.

Let me set the stage for you: I'm 47. Married, mom, Realtor. I love gardening and a good book. But my son is just about grown, my husband works a lot, and I had way more free time than I knew what to do with. Plus, there's only so much gardening you can do in New Jersey in winter.

I ended up deciding to actually bother with makeup. I mean, it's not like I was going to work with a naked face. . .not all the time. I had two eyeshadow palettes, an eyeliner, and two MAC lipsticks. That was good, right?

Ah, those innocent days of four months ago!

My husband got me a vanity for Valentine's Day. Totally my idea, I asked for it. It was only right to fill it with things to use. I had been watching a lot of Bailey Sarian, okay? Like, all of them. Really, all of this is Bailey's fault. (Bailey, I adore you!) Because of all the Murder, Mystery, and Makeup Mondays, I kept seeing Facebook ads for ColourPop and Zeesea Cosmetics eyeshadow palettes. I thought, why not? I could spiff myself up a little. Maybe try false eyelashes. Use colors other than taupe.

That's when things got fun. Did I mention yet that I have Adult ADHD? Oh yeah. Big time. The inattentive type. One of the symptoms I have a lot of experience with is hyperfocus. Put simply, every so often I find myself a rabbit hole and hurl myself in like a virgin into a volcano. I don't get to choose what that something is, it just happens.

As it turned out, makeup just happened.

In the last four months, I've bought or been given 30 more eyeshadow palettes,not to mention lip gloss, concealer, blush, contour, mascara, eyeliner, moisturizer, and cleansing wipes to take it all back off. I started posting a Look Of The Day to my Instagram account. I found out I hate false eyelashes. Sure do love a good lip gloss, though.

It wasn't long before people started asking me about makeup, or to see my eyes. I was surprised - I hadn't expected friends and family to notice what I was doing! One day, my boss told me she looked forward to seeing the posts I was making. I was floored.

I've been having a blast on Instagram, but I think it's time to expand. I'll be posting looks, product reviews, thoughts on being big and beautiful, and who knows what else?
